The Afghan commando forces have freed 28 civilians who were kept in Taliban custody in the southern Helmand province, said a statement issued by the Ministry of Defense, today, Tuesday, April 20.
The Afghan commando forces launched an operation to release the civilians and as many as six Taliban militants were killed in the operation and their ammunition was seized by the Afghan security forces, the statement said.
The Taliban has not made any comment in this regard.
On March 03, the Afghan elite commando forces released 34 people including a number of the military forces from a prison run by the Taliban militants in Adraskan district of the western Herat province.
The militant group often takes civilians as hostages in the areas under their control.
