2 workers go missing as stone-laden vessel sinks in Karnaphuli River

Two workers went missing today as a stone-laden vessel sank in the Karnaphuli River at Kalarpole in Patiya upazila under Chattogram.

The missing men are Abul Kalam Munshi and Rahmat Ali.

The vessel carrying 700 tonnes of stones sank in the river around 9:30am after it hit a pillar of Kalarpole Bridge in Murari canal at Patiya, said Biplab Kumar Nath, a Chattogram Fire Service official.

Local people managed to rescue 27 workers of the vessel while the two remained missing.

There were 24 stone workers and five staff members in the vessel.
