Two people were injured in a clash between supporters of BNP’s Chattogram City Corporation mayoral candidate Shahadat Hossain and some Awami League leaders and activists in the port city last night.
The clash took place in front of BNP (Chattogram) office in the city’s Kazir Dewri area around 10:45pm, reports our Chattogram correspondent.
The incident occurred when BNP leaders and activists from the party office threw brick chips at AL men when they were returning home after their election campaign, which led to a chase and counter chase, said Palash Kanti Nath, additional deputy commissioner (south division) of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP).
“A crude bomb went off during the incident,” said the ADC.
On information, police immediately rushed to the spot and dispersed them from the area, he said.
Additional police personnel were deployed in front of Nasiman Bhaban, also the party office of BNP to avoid further clash, added ADC Palash Kanti Nath.
