However, the number of the patients in Indurkani upazila could not be known due to the suspension of the indoor service at the upazila health complex.

In the last one month, a total of 1,699 people have been infected with diarrhoea where the number of total infected is 4,135 from January 1, this year.

The situation is so dire that no bed is empty at the diarrhoea wards. As a result, patients are taking treatment staying at the floor of the hospitals. The scenario is almost the same at all the six government hospitals in the district.

Dr Nizam Uddin, resident medical officer (RMO) of Pirojpur District Hospital, has said that for the last week, the number of diarrhoea patients is increasing at the hospital.

Mohammad Miraz, a resident of Parerhat village under Indurkani upazila, said he has brought his three-year-old son to Pirojpur District Hospital with symptoms of diarrhoea. “As there is no empty be, we are staying at the floor,” he said.

Dr M Hasnat Yousuf Jaki, civil surgeon in Pirojpur, has said that because of hot weather the infection of diarrhea is higher this year.

“But we have sufficient medicine and saline to manage the situation,” he said.

“We have enough supply of both IV and oral saline. Even, we have asked for more saline to the concerned authority so that we don’t have to face any trouble during this period” he said.
