Three people, including a man and his son, were killed and 10 others injured during a head-on collision between a microbus and a pick-up van on Mymensingh-Kishoreganj road in Nandail upazila of Mymensingh this morning.
The victims were identified as Fahad Alam (32), his five-year-old son Turan of Sreebordi in Sherpur district and Fahad’s aunt Jharna Begum (45), hailing from Bakshiganj upazila of Jamalpur, said police.
Fahad Alam was an assistant teacher at a government primary school in Sreebordi, our Mymensingh correspondent reports quoting police.
Quoting the family members, Mohammad Monjurul Hoque, officer-in-charge of Nandail Highway Police, said the Kishoreganj-bound microbus collided with a Mymensingh bound pick-up van from opposite direction in Dangri area in the morning.
The accident left Fahad and Turan dead on the spot and 11 others of both vehicles injured, the police official said.
Fahad along with his family members and relatives on the microbus were on their way to visit haor areas in Nikli upazila of Kishoreganj.
The injured, including Jharna, were first taken to Nandail Upazila Health Complex from where they were referred to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where doctors declared Jharna dead, said the OC.
Police seized the vehicles but drivers of both vehicles managed to flee the scene, added the OC.
A case was filed in this connection.
