Education Ministry: Uniforms not compulsory when schools reopen on March 1

PETALING JAYA: Students who do not have uniforms ready when schools reopen have about a month to obtain them.

The Education Ministry said until the students have obtained the required uniforms, they would be allowed to wear any decent and appropriate clothing when schools reopen on March 1.

“We have received many questions from parents asking about uniforms when schools reopen.

“Students must wear school uniforms to attend school. However, taking the current situation into consideration, students who do not have their school uniforms yet are allowed to wear any appropriate clothing to school.

“This will be allowed from March 1 to 26, which is when mid-term school holidays start,” the ministry said in a statement on Wednesday (Feb 24).

The ministry said it hoped this would encourage students to return to school for face-to-face lessons.

Classes will resume after the mid-term break on April 4 or 5, depending on the state.
