JOHOR BARU: A total of 288 secondary schools in Johor have been sanitised to make way for the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM), set to start on Monday (Feb 22).
State Fire and Rescue Department director Datuk Yahaya Madis said that the department began sanitising the schools two days ago with the help of other agencies.
He said the Department sanitised 35 schools after receiving applications from them, adding that other schools were sanitised by the district Health Department, non-governmental organisations and school staff themselves.
He said this at a press conference after attending the sanitisation operation at SMK Majidee Baru 2 here on Sunday (Feb 21).
He added that the department has sanitised a total of 210 schools state-wide since March last year.
“The sanitisation will only be carried out once for the SPM. However, we will carry out the sanitisation operation again if a Covid-19 case is detected,” he said.
Aside from the SPM, the Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia (SKM), Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM), Sijil Vokasional Malaysia, Sijil Tinggi Agama Malaysia and Diploma Vokasional Malaysia exams will also begin on Feb 22.
