Covid-19: 19 new clusters identified, 10 linked to workplaces

PUTRAJAYA: The Health Ministry has identified 19 new Covid-19 clusters, of which 10 are workplace outbreaks.

In the ministry’s daily Covid-19 updates, it is reported that four out of 10 of the workplace clusters involve factory workers in Selangor and Penang.

One of them is the Industri Jalan SS13 cluster in Petaling Jaya, which has 148 positive cases.

The cluster was uncovered from a targeted screening exercise conducted of workers of a factory located at Jalan SS 13/5 in Kawasan Perindustrian Subang Jaya.

Besides workplace clusters, another five new clusters detected in Sarawak, Negri Sembilan, Kelantan and Sabah have been classified as community outbreaks.

Four clusters – categorised as high-risk group outbreaks – were found in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Johor.

All four are outbreaks discovered at old folks’ homes.

One of them is the Jalan Hujan Bubuk cluster in Kuala Lumpur, which involves a nursing home at Taman OUG.

The index case is a 53-year-old woman who tested positive on June 15, after developing symptoms on June 3.

A screening conducted on 34 staff and residents of the home found 12 positive cases under the cluster.

To date, there are 788 active clusters nationwide.
