Covid-19: Approximately 500 Chinese citizens vaccinated on Saturday (July 31)

PETALING JAYA: Around 500 Chinese nationals received their Covid-19 vaccinations at the Palace of the Golden Horses on Saturday (July 31), says Khairy Jamaluddin.

The National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (NIP) coordinating minister said that there are around 26,000 to 30,000 Chinese nationals living in Malaysia and that all will be inoculated at vaccination centres (PPVs) throughout the country.

“They will be vaccinated hopefully by next week,” he said at a press conference on Saturday (July 31) after visiting the Palace of the Golden Horses hotel in Serdang, where the special vaccination programme for the Chinese nationals is being held.

Khairy added that they have purchased the Cansino vaccine from China, and are hoping to receive the first shipment in the first week of August.

Meanwhile, Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia Ouyang Yujing noted that since the Covid-19 outbreak last year, the Chinese and the Malaysian government have been working together in fighting this pandemic.

He said that the NIP has benefited Malaysians and foreigners in the country, including Chinese nationals and thanked the Malaysian government for their efforts in vaccinating them.

“This reflects the solid friendship of China and Malaysia. With our joint efforts, we can speed up the vaccination programme. As long as we work together, we can defeat the Covid-19 pandemic together,” he said.
