Covid-19 positive senior citizen found dead at home, knife wound to throat

SERDANG: A senior citizen who was Covid-19 positive was found dead at his home in Bandar Putra Permai, Seri Kembangan with a slash wound on his throat.

Serdang OCPD Asst Comm Razali Abu Samah said the police and officers from the Health Ministry rushed to the scene at about 9pm on Friday (Jan 22).

“Checks revealed there was no criminal elements in his death. We discovered a slash wound the throat of the 66-year-old man,” he said when contacted on Friday night.

ACP Razali added that police at the scene also discovered a knife next to the victim’s body.

“The investigation revealed that the man did a swab test at a private hospital on Jan 7 and was confirmed to be Covid-19 positive the next day. A second swab test was conducted in Jan 18 and the results on Jan 20 revealed that he was still positive,” he said.

ACP Razali said the victim had spent a lot for his Covid-19 treatment.

“He had asked his wife to go to the bank with him on Jan 22 to transfer RM40,000 to pay for Covid-19 treatments,” he said

“According to his wife, the victim often complained of being in pain and he was depressed after it was confirmed that he was infected with the virus,” added ACP Razali.

ACP Razali said that there were no signs of a break-in at the victim’s home, adding that nothing was missing from the house.

He added that the neighbours did not hear any arguments from the house.

“We are classifying the case as a sudden death,” he said.
