Family business: Melaka cops nab grandma and grandson in probe on drug ring

MELAKA: An alleged drug-peddling grandmother and her grandson have been arrested by Melaka police at a house in Taman Seri Bayu, Alor Gajah here.

Melaka Narcotics chief Supt Zulkiflee Rashid said both the grandmother, 65, and her 21-year-old grandson have criminal records.

He said police raided the house at 6.45am on Thursday (July 29) as a follow-up to an investigation of a drug-peddling syndicate said to be active in the Alor Gajah district.

“My men arrested a 31-year-old man at the same housing estate at 6am the same day before arresting the other two,” he said on Monday (Aug 2).

Supt Zulkiflee said police confiscated various types of drugs worth RM86,000 from the first man.

He said all three suspects were believed to be part of a syndicate supplying drugs to some 6,200 addicts in the locality.

He said all three have been remanded until Thursday (Aug 5) to assist in investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

Supt Zulkiflee added that police also seized the belongings of all three suspects, including their vehicles.
