Fisherman who went missing in Tanjung Emas found dead

MUAR: One of the two fishermen who went missing during a fishing trip in Tanjung Emas here on Saturday (Sept 19) afternoon has been found dead.

Muar Fire and Rescue Department chief Mohd Jefri Jamal said the body of Zainal Jerman, 61, was found at 3.25pm on Sunday (Sept 20), with the help of local fishermen.

“The body was found near Pantai Simpang Empat in Parit Haji Baki, about 2km from where they were last spotted, ” he said in a statement.

The victim’s 25-year-old son was still missing, he said.

Mohd Jefri added that the victim’s body was brought to shore via the marine police jetty and handed over to the police for further action.

Mohd Jefri added that a search and rescue operation is ongoing to look for the remaining victim.

“The search area is divided into three sections with a 10km radius from where the victims were last seen, ” he said.

It was reported that the father and son went missing around 4pm on Saturday after going fishing with two other fishermen on two separate boats.

One of the missing fishermen had fallen into the sea before the other jumped in and tried to save him.

The missing duo also experienced difficulties with their boat before the incident happened.
