PETALING JAYA: A tahfiz in Machang, Kelantan, will be placed under the enhanced movement control order for 14 days from Wednesday (April 21), says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
The Senior Minister (Security) said the decision to place Tahfiz Al-Quran Wal Qiraat (MTAQ) in Pulai Chondong under the enhanced MCO until May 4 came after a surge in Covid-19 cases in the locality.
He said that of the 243 tests conducted, 97 came back positive.
“This will make it easier for the Health Ministry to conduct targeted screenings on those involved and prevent the spread of the disease to communities outside, ” he said in a statement on Tuesday (April 20).
Ismail Sabri also said the enhanced MCO at Kampung Batu Gong in Serian, Sarawak, will end ahead of schedule on Tuesday (April 20), instead of April 23.
A total of 103 cases were detected out of 485 tests conducted, with the last case reported on April 15, he noted.
He added that the enhanced MCO at Sri Aman Prison and staff quarters in Sarawak would end on Wednesday (April 21) as scheduled.
He said that of the 532 tests conducted, 365 were positive.
The Health Ministry, he said, concluded that there was a decrease in the number of cases and that the cluster was controlled, with the last case detected on April 16.
Ismail Sabri also said the police had taken action against 110 individuals for various MCO violations.
He said 108 individuals were compounded while two others were remanded on Monday (April 19).
The violations were for not observing physical distancing (17), not recording details of entry into premises (32), not wearing face masks (34), interstate or inter-district travel without permission (1) and other offences (26).
