Malaysia Day still worth celebrating despite pandemic, says Wee

PETALING JAYA: Despite the ongoing pandemic, Malaysia Day is something the nation will always remember.

“This year’s celebration is certainly different from previous years due to the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. Although not as festive as before, the historic date of September 16 is definitely something we always remember.

“This is the meaningful date when the peninsula, Sabah, Sarawak and Singapore (at that time) became one as an independent country,” said Transport Minister Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong in a Facebook post.

He extended his Malaysia Day wishes and also shared photos of the celebration in Sibu, which was attended by

Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and other Cabinet members.

“Citizens of various races, religions and cultures live peacefully under the roof that is Malaysia. This is based on the five principles of the Rukun Negara which is used as the key to unity, harmony, stability and success of Malaysia,” he said.
