PAC to go ahead with meeting on Monday (Aug 2) despite Health Ministry’s advice

PETALING JAYA: The Health Ministry’s suggestion to postpone all select committee meetings in Parliament for two weeks is “ridiculous”, says the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).

Its chairman Wong Kah Woh said that the committee had originally scheduled to discuss the vaccine procurement issue with Health Ministry representatives.

“The PAC is scheduled to call the Health Minister and the Health director-general in our proceedings tomorrow (Aug 2) at 10.30am on the issue of vaccine procurement.

“(However), the Health director-general has written to the Dewan Rakyat secretary that he is suggesting for all the select committee meetings be postponed for two weeks due to positive (Covid-19) cases detected in Parliament.

“My first response to the Dewan Rakyat secretary – this is ridiculous!” he said in a Facebook post on Sunday (Aug 1).

He however said that the PAC had decided that it would continue with their meeting as scheduled.

“I have instructed the Dewan Rakyat secretary to inform the Health director-general that our proceedings shall go on.

“When Parliament is not sitting, there will be less than 30 people in the PAC committee room,” he added.
