PETALING JAYA: A list of 25 women candidates have been sent to the party leadership for consideration to contest in the 15th General Election, says Wanita MCA.
Its chief Datuk Heng Seai Kie (pic) said the Wanita and Youth wings were encouraged to submit a list of potential candidates last year based on their qualifications and party conditions.
“We have sent in a list of 25 women candidates for the consideration of the party. We believe the most winnable candidate should be proposed because at the end of the day, we must win more seats to strengthen MCA,” she said during a press conference after the Wanita MCA’s 45th annual general meeting on Saturday (March 6).
Separately, on the issue of child marriages, Heng said the issue transcends racial and religious background, and should be handled seriously as a children’s rights issue.
“Wanita MCA calls on leaders to view this in a broad manner in crafting policies and solutions, not based on their own beliefs or opinion.
“We have officially written to the Women and Family Development Ministry months ago to fix an appointment to meet with its minister Datuk Seri Rina Harun and her deputy for a roundtable discussion on child marriages, child citizenship, and other related women and grassroots issues,” she said.
