Chelsea are looking to raise funds as they look to reshape their squad under Thomas Tuchel. Last summer the Blues spent a lot of money on signing seven different players. However, all of them were signed by Frank Lampard. Thomas Tuchel’s idea of football is different from that of Lampard’s.
Thus, it is understandable that there will be casualties as the transfer window comes to a close. One such player, whose game time got limited under Tuchel, was Hakim Ziyech. Though last season he was injured, it was clear that the German does not fancy him.
Chelsea set a price tag on Ziyech
According to Todo Fichajes, the former Ajax midfielder is close to signing for AC Milan. Chelsea have set his price at $35 million. While the Rossoneri are also keen on spending that money on him. The Morrocan style of play does not suit Tuchel’s high pressing football.
AC Milan are considering selling some of their players in order to fund the move. However, it is unclear who all will be sold in order to raise funds to sign Ziyech. The same report has also stated that the deal could be finalised by the end of this week.
Why does Chelsea want to sell Ziyech?
The first reason is the game time that the Morrocan got under Tuchel. When he arrived at Stamford Bridge he got injured in the preseason. As a result of which he only got 919 minutes under Lampard. The Englishman signed him because he was seen as the player who could open up defences.
However, things haven’t gone as per plan for Morrocan star under Tuchel. Though he has got more playing time under the German 991 minutes. But in 919 minutes under Lampard, he was largely unavailable as well. The second reason is his lack of pace up front.
The likes of Timo Werner and Mason Mount can put in real shift pressing the opponent’s defenders. This is something that does not suit Ziyech’s game. Not only this will aloe help Chelsea to generate funds to sign Erling Haaland.
Why does AC Milan want to sign Ziyech?
The Rossoneri are in a phase of transition. They managed to break into the top four positions this season. However, that is unlikely to be enough to satisfy their ambition. Like their arch-rivals Inter Milan, they also want to win the Serie A.
Thus, they need to recruit better players. It looks like Chelsea have become their place for recruitment. They have already signed Fikayo Tomori and Olivier Giroud from the Blues. Hakim Ziyech will be their third signing from Chelsea.
The former Ajax midfielder is now 28 years old, and he is reaching his peak form. Not only this now, he has experience of playing in a competitive league. This will also help him to adjust to Italian football. Serie A is more tactical and has less pace compared to the Premier League.
12th Man Opinion
Chelsea fans would not mind seeing Hakim Ziyech leave the club. There were a lot of expectations from him when was signed. However, he had a difficult first year at Stamford Bridge. They would also be happy to see almost all their money being recouped through this sale.
As for AC Milan fans, they would be hoping that he can be the creative force that can create chances for strikers. During his time at Ajax, his inward crosses from the right-wing were a thing of joy. The Rossoneri fans would be hoping that they get to see more of that when he arrives at San Siro.
