Embassy calls on M’sians in Finland to show support

PETALING JAYA: The national team led by Lee Zii Jia can expect some countrymen cheering them on when the Sudirman Cup gets under way in Vantaa, Finland today.

Malaysia will open their Group D campaign against England tomorrow, followed by Egypt and Japan on Tuesday and Thursday respectively.

Malaysia are tipped to reach the knockout stage which will take place from Oct 1-3.

The Malaysia embassy in Finland has called on the Malaysians residing in the Nordic country to come out in numbers at the Energia Areena.

“The Embassy has alerted the Malaysians in town regarding the presence of the national shuttlers and hopefully many will be able to attend,” said the Malaysian Ambassador to Finland John K. Samuel.

“We need to add a little flavour and liven up the atmosphere at the stadium with our chants and over enthusiasm!

John was personally present when the national squad landed at the Helsinki International Airport on Wednesday.

“It was both an honour and a privilege to meet and greet the Malaysian badminton team at Helsinki airport,” said John.

“Despite the long flight, all looked eager and surprisingly, not tired. Must be the youth in them as I really felt like an old man in the midst of these young and enthusiastic players.”
