PETALING: Defending Malaysia Cup champions Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) are off to a winning start after beating Kelantan 2-0 in their Group D match at the Sultan Ibrahim Stadium on Monday (Sept 27).
Brazilian striker Bergson Da Silva scored the first for the Southern Tigers when he buried a penalty in the 30th minute.
Winger Safawi Rasid further piled on the misery for the Red Warriors when he beautifully controlled a long pass from midfielder Daniel Amier Norhisham and prodded the ball past Kelantan’s goalkeeper Farizal Harun.
In the other Group D game, Sabah were held 1-1 by Petaling Jaya City at the Petaling Jaya Stadium. The Rhinos first scored through South Korean centreback Park Tae-su, who unleashed a vicious free kick from almost 40 metres in the 20th minute.
The Phoenix fought back through striker Darren Lok, who received a long pass from K. Prabakaran and unleashed a shot past Sabah’s goalkeeper Robson Rendy Rining in the 80th minute.
