Hafizh-Azlan duel sure to set pulses racing at MSF Supermoto

PETALING JAYA: A battle between two seasoned campaigners on two wheels is set to spice up Round 3 of the MSF Supermoto championship starting today at the Tangkak Circuit.

Former MotoGP rider Hafizh Syahrin Abdullah (pic) will be riding on a very rare and powerful TM SMX450 bike to pit his skills against reigning Asia Superbike Champion Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman.

Azlan took the Race 2 chequered flag during Round 2 in Tangkak last month.

Azlan is also confirmed for the next round and will be battling two-time FIM Asia SuperMoto Champion Gabit Salleh and young prodigy Danial Haiqal of Team KMTR.

“In terms of the competition, Danial is still a threat although he is young. I expect another tough fight with him,” said Azlan.

“I’m also happy to have Hafizh on the grid as it will make the race more exciting but I will be out to finish the race in front of him.

Both Azlan and Hafizh have fought many times in the past but the most memorable duel was at the Moto2 2015 race at the Suzuka Circuit in Japan.

Azlan came in fourth, five seconds ahead of Hafizh who was fifth.

Hafizh said it was a last-minute decision to enter as he seeks competitive action before the World Superbike Championships starts later in the year.

“I’m just taking it easy, still trying to find my pace. SuperMoto is fun and it’s also good training for me,” said Hafizh, whose experience in MotoGP will be of immense help.
