How much the world has changed in six years. It’s back to Vienna for Iran nuclear negotiators – to the same venue where a UN-backed agreement was signed in 2015. Times have indeed changed since Donald Trump walked away from the deal and tried his maximum pressure regime of increased sanctions. With Western allies forced to abide, Iran has not only retaliated by upping uranium enrichment.
It has also looked for partners who can get around transactions in US dollars. We ask about a recent trade deal with China and why it is not so popular among ordinary Iranians.
And of course we ask if these indirect talks between Iran and the US can quickly bear fruit. Iranians have elections in June and Joe Biden is under pressure to demand more from an eventual new deal. Can they find common ground?
